Dr Robert Sykes
MBChB MRCGP DFFP
Dr Sykes studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, graduating in 2003. During training, Dr Sykes gained experience in Accident and emergency, Paediatrics, and Genitourinary medicine.
Dr Sykes started work for Hanham Health in 2009 and currently splits his time between Oldland Surgery and our MOD Abbey Wood site.
Dr Sykes has particular interests in men’s health and musculoskeletal medicine. In his free time he plays disc golf, is a keen cook and has a passion for travelling.
Dr Ellie Carslake
Dr Eleanor Carslake graduated from the Royal London School of Medicine in 2003, where she was also awarded university colours for contributions to netball, drama and the students association. She has held a variety of jobs during her time as a clinician, even working with a major trauma centre in Western Australia in the early 2000s. Dr Carslake has been working as a GP for Hanham Health since 2009.
Dr Carslake has special interests in sexual health and education, and as such went on to earn a diploma in Family, Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Dr Katie Markkanen
MB ChB DRCOG DFRSH
Dr Markkanen studied medicine at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2005. She went on to gain postgraduate experience from the Severn Deanery Foundation Programme based in the South West.
Dr Markkanen began working for Hanham Health in 2007 as a GP registrar and was instated as a salaried GP in 2010. She achieved her diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Sexual and Reproductive Health during her training. Dr Markkanen is interested in all aspects of General Practise and relishes the variety of the role.
When not at work she spends her time with her two children, husband and cat!
Dr Laura Layzell
MbChb RCGP DCH DFRSH DRCOG
Dr Layzell studied medicine at Bristol University, graduating in 2006. In 2009, she earned a Diploma from the Royal College Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as a Diploma in Child Health. Dr Layzell joined Hanham Health as a salaried GP in 2010, where she is now the Practice’s QOF lead for Heart Failure, the lead GP responsible for the care of our patients at Harefield Hall Residential Home and GP Prescribing lead.
Dr Layzell has a particular interest in Women’s health and contraception and fits contraceptive implants and coils. Dr Layzell also has an interest in Mental Health, partly prompted by her volunteer work at Samaritans helpline when she was a medical student.
In her spare time, Dr Layzell enjoys family life, is a keen cook and attends classic car events.
Dr Ruth Lloyd
MRCGP DRCOG MBcHB
Dr Lloyd studied Medicine at Manchester University, graduating in 2005. She went on to gain a Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2008. Dr Lloyd began working for Hanham Health as a salaried GP in 2011.
Dr Lloyd as particular interests in musculoskeletal medicine and health promotion.
She is a keen traveller, having visited South America, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, and Indonesia during a 6 month expedition. She completed the Inca Trail in 2010.
Dr Kerry Maguire
MB Bch BAO DGM DRCOG MRCGP MBBchBAo
Dr Maguire studied medicine at Queens University in Belfast, graduating in 2002. She worked in Sydney, Australia, Ireland and Cuba before settling in Brstol. Dr Maguire has been working as a salaried GP for Hanham Health since 2011.
Dr Maguire has special interests in Sexual Health and Contraception and as such, earned her competency in Sub dermal Contraceptive Implant insertion and removal.
Dr Jenny Lockey
MBChB BSc MRCGP DFSRH DRCOG
Dr Lockey studied medicine at Leeds University, graduating in 2005. She obtained a first class intercalated honours degree in Genetics. She completed her GP training in London in 2010 before spending a year working as a General Practitioner in New Zealand. Dr Lockey began working as a salaried GP for Hanham Health in 2012.
In 2004, Dr Lockey earned the Thorpe Award for Public Health following her work with AIDS Education and Awareness in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is particularly interested in Palliative Care, Women’s Health, Contraceptive Medicine and Education. She is also fully qualified in implanon insertion and removal, and has earned a Diploma in Family Planning / Sexual Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is currently working towards a Diploma in Palliative Medicine at Cardiff University.
Dr Lockey is also a keen athlete, having earned full colours during University and played as an international representative for the England Student-Level Rugby team.
Dr Simon Flower
Dr Flower studied medicine at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2002. He has been working as a salaried GP for Hanham Health since 2013, and splits his time between Hanham Surgery and the Prisons. An extensive experience in Emergency Medicine and Orthopaedics (along with a catalogue of previous sporting ailments), has led to a special interest in musculoskeletal medicine, and means that he is able to perform a variety of joint and tendon injections.
Dr Flower enjoys a very active lifestyle and is passionate about Expedition Medicine; he has taken part in numerous expeditions to remote mountain regions worldwide, and has been the doctor for Mendip Cave Rescue for a number of years. He earned his UIAA Diploma in Mountain Medicine from the University of Leicester in 2006.
Dr Irorho Mousah
Dr Mousah studied Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bristol, graduating in 2008. In 2011, she earned a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Mousah has particular interests in Contraceptive Medicine, Women’s Health and Palliative care. She is currently working towards her Diploma in Sexual Reproductive care.
When she is not looking after her two young children, Dr Mousah enjoys cooking, baking and making jewellery. She also leads the Children’s Department at the local church, facilitating trips and craft sessions.
Dr David Atherton
Dr Atherton earned a first class Intercalated BSc from Southampton University in 2008 whilst studying his bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, for which he graduated in 2009. He began working for Hanham Health as a salaried GP in August 2014.
Dr Atherton has particular interests in Education and Minor Operations, having completed a Minor Surgery course in 2012.
Dr Atherton is a keen badminton and squash player, and he competes weekly at club level.
Dr Laura Hinchliffe
Dr Hinchliffe studied Medicine and Surgery at Cardiff University, graduating in 2008. Dr Hinchliffe is particularly interested in Education and has recently been a tutor at University of Bristol for their Whole Person Care module for medical students. She began working for Hanham Health as a salaried GP in 2014 .
During her placements, Dr Hinchliffe spent three months working in a Women and Children’s hospital in India. She also spent a month, as part of a charity excursion, working in a Belarussian Orphanage helping the disabled and sick children.
Dr Hinchliffe is also a keen painter and a regular yoga practitioner.
Dr Ruth Talbot
MBChB BSc Hons MRCGP
Dr Talbot studied medicine and the University of Bristol and qualified in 2008 having also earned an intercalated degree in Cancer Biology and Virology. She has done her post graduate training in hospitals around the South West and also has been able to spend time practicing medicine in Brisbane, Belize and most recently a volunteer trip in the Amazon, Peru.
She completed her GP training in 2014 and has been working at Hanham Health as a salaried GP since this time. At present Dr Talbot is currently working towards a certificate in Substance Misuse.
In her spare time she enjoys travelling, baking and attending local art classes.
Dr Adrian Mackie
Dr Will Kenyon
Dr Kenyon graduated from the University of Wales in 2010 and completed his GP training in 2015.
He has a keen interest in palliative care and in addition to his work at Hanham Health he works at the Children’s hospice 1 day per week.
Dr Tim Hodkinson
Dr Hodkinson studied medicine at the University of Sheffield, graduating in 2011. During his years in hospital, he gained experience in Care of the Elderly, Dermatology, ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat), Intensive Care, Paediatrics and Psychiatry before qualifying as a GP in 2016.
In August 2016 Dr Hodkinson began working full time as a salaried GP for Hanham Health
Dr Hodkinson enjoys the variety that General Practice offers alongside providing continuity of care. He has particular interests in ENT, Sleep medicine, Medical Education, and additional competencies in both minor surgery and joint injections.
In his free time Dr Hodkinson enjoys barbeques, films and spending time with his family and friends.

Dr Kathryn Garnham
Dr Kathryn Garnham studied medicine at the University of Cardiff, and graduated in 2010. Prior to starting her GP training she worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner and this has sparked an interest in helping patients with substance misuse problems. She underwent additional training in this area during her GP training .
She joined Hanham Health in November 2016, and enjoys the combination of community and prison General Practice.
Dr Emma Mastrocola
