Stephen Illingworth, b 1951 MA MB BChir (Cantab) FRCP FRCGP FPCert

Dr Illingworth qualified in Cambridge in 1975 and trained in internal medicine (MRCP 1978) before completing training as general practitioner (MRCGP 1981) following which he was appointed as partner at Hanham. He has subsequently been awarded Fellowships of the Royal College of General Practitioners (1995) and the Royal College of Physicians (2006)

He committed to the provision a high standard of personalised general medical care to all patients and has a particular interest in the care of older people. He believes in continuity of care but also believes that optimum health care can be best provided by an integrated and fully functional primary health care team working in partnership with individual patients.

He has been actively involved in service development both within the practice and within the wider health community. He has championed the development of primary care nursing, nursing prescribing and the development and deployment of Advance Primary Care Nurses and Nurse Practitioners within primary care. He has previously been chairman of the Local Medical Committee and the District Medical Advisory Committee and was non-executive director of Avon Health Authority. He has been GP lead for Intermediate Care Services and Older Peoples’ Services for South Gloucestershire PCT. He is currently lead partner for prison services delivering healthcare services to the women at HMP Eastwood Park.
